QC Eccentric passes away

Anyone who grew up around the QC area has either seen the lady with the white face,  or has at least heard stories  about her.
If you are not from this area, or are one of the few who don't know about her, Martha Davis was a black woman who would paint her face white (ghost white) every day.
Here is a link to the QC Times article written about her.

Meet Rowan.

" A new baby
is like the beginning
of all things -
wonder,
hope,
a dream of possibilities."
~ Eda J Leshan ~

Sunday, Novermber 15th I took on the challenge of my very first newborn photo session.
Rowan was born on November 6th, 2009.

What I learned from this shoot:
  • Newborns are a lot harder to photograph than older babies
  • Plan on taking many, many shots to get the perfect one
  • Allow extra time for the photo shoot for diaper changes, feedings, and for mom or dad to comfort their little one when he/she is crying
  • Use only natural lighting- open the blinds and curtains and let the sunshine in!!
  • Turn up the heat!! Moms and Dads love portraits of their little one bare-bottomed. Keeping the little one warm is a top priority- even if that means everyone else in the place is sweating!

I will be following little Rowan for the next year, taking photos when he turns 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and again for his 1 year portraits.

Who would walk 60 miles in 3 days???

My sister, that's who.
And why did she walk 60 miles in three days?
To help raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to find a cure for breast cancer.
The photo below was taken by Michelle Simpson at the 2009 3-Day in Chicago, IL

To me, walking 20 miles a day for three days in a row doesn't sound like much fun- especially after hearing about all of the foot problems my sister had by the end of the third day. However, my sister is a very tough, very determined person when she sets her mind to something. She is not only walking the 3-Day again next year in 2010, but she is also captaining a team called 'Bras of Glory'. As of right now, Bras of Glory is five people strong with talk of a coulpe of other possible members.

This is what my sister, Michelle has to say about it:

Last year I walked in the Chicago 3-Day. Thanks to everyone who supported me in so many ways. It was such an awesome experience, I'm doing it in San Francisco in 2010 and am Captaining the team Bras of Glory!

Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight to end breast cancer! The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.

Bras of Glory has a big goal to reach!!! They are striving to raise $10,000 by October of next year. If you would like to help them reach their goal of raising $10,000, there are several ways to do so. You can donate directly to the Bras of Glory fundraising page at this link:

Bras of Glory Homepage

There are several other links you can go to if you would like other ways of helping them reach their goal. Any one who shops online regularly at sites like hotel.com, priceline.com, lego.com, Ebay.com and many, many other stores can help out just by registering at this link:

And of course, Chaos Studios Photography is helping, too! 10% of all family portrait, kids portrait, senior portrait, couple portrait, or holiday portrait session fees is donated to Bras of Glory. Also, 50% of all Fine Art Photography prints purchased at the link below is donated to Bras of Glory, also.

Meet the Kaspareks

The Kaspareks won a free family portrait session from Chaos Studios Photography at the 2009 UPS golf outing. All of the money raised at the golf outing is donated to the Gilda's Club to help cancer patients and their families.

We were hoping that the weather would cooperate and we would be able to take some nice outside photos with all of the beautiful orange and yellow fall leaves. Unfortunately, it was raining all day when we had the shoot.

We took the photo shoot indoors at the botanical center at Vander Veer Park in Davenport, IA. The tropical plants, windmill, and fish pond were a beautiful backdrop for their portraits.
